¨ Living in times full of technology and inventions, there is something magical about painting and expressionism itself, the power of bringing back the oldest way of communication and self-expression. My connection to painting and art itself goes far beyond something that has already been invented or technologically created. It all comes together to explore new shapes and forms, mix colors and techniques, ultimately creating something with strong emotional weight. As a result, my work develops by asking questions and generating self awareness more than creating a statement or an in the box thinking. In the end I think that's why we are here for, to try to find answers to questions we ask ourselves, and maybe at the end of the road, we find the answers to them ¨

Statement by Rafael Bustamante, 2023.

Rafael Bustamante is an emerging artist who was born in 1993 in Leon, Guanajuato and is currently living and working in Monterrey, Nuevo León. After graduating from Tecnológico de Monterrey with an architectural degree, he pursued his passion for art. His past with architecture and geometry is portrayed in his work, while also expanding his mind using abstract techniques and exploring different approaches.

Rafael Bustamante works with color theory to express his vision and feelings. The combination of his geometric and abstract techniques, along with his color palettes, work impressively to tell a story that can be uniquely interpreted by the viewer. At the beginning of his career, as an architect, he immersed himself into the world of art. The passion involved in his journey has allowed him to develop a deep vision filled with inspiration and knowledge from around the world.

His work references everything that surrounds his life, whether that is by praising the good or criticizing the bad. The work is an amalgamation of his experiences throughout his childhood and adulthood, and is a way to express his nonconformist identity. Emotional rawness is evidently seen in each composition, representing a time or event during his life that has shaped him to be the artist he is and will be.
